A unique expirence to visit arqueological sites: 4 days in Trujillo

Day 1: Trujillo

Arrival in the city of Trujillo, reception Transfer to hotel.

Day 2: Trujillo City Tour – Chan Chan – Huaca del Sol & La Luna

Breakfast. Full-day tour that includes the main attractions of the city and archaeological ruins, the Americas’ largest Pre-Columbian mud city “Chan Chan” and the huge Moche pyramids, the Huaca del Sol and the Huaca de la Luna.

The day also includes a trip to the picturesque fishing village of Huanchaco to enjoy some of the best traditional sea food Peru has to offer. (B/L)

Day 3: El Brujo: Señora de Cao (Tattooed Mummy)

Breakfast. This half-day excursion begins with pickup at your hotel for the one-hour drive along the Panamerica Highway to Chocope and the archaeological complex of El Brujo (or “The Sorcerer”). The route takes you past vast cane fields, where most of Peru’s sugar is produced, as well as Cartavio and Casa Grande premium rums.

El Brujo is comprised of three ancient temples built by the Moche nearly 2,000 years ago: Huaca El Brujo, Huaca Prieta and Huaca Cao Viejo.

The temples feature magnificent bas-relief friezes depicting fishing, dancers, prisoners of war, and ritual human sacrifice.

In 2004, escavation revealed five tombs in the northwest patio of the Cao Viejo temple. In one of them, archaeologist Regulo Franco discovered the mummified remains of a woman decorated with tattoos of snakes and spiders. Dubbed “The Lady of Cao,” the woman is believed to have been the first known female ruler of pre-Columbian Peru — a Cleopatra of South America. (B)
