Home Tours Iquitos ExplorNapo Lodge 4 Days - 3 Nights
Iquitos

IquitosIquitos, the frontier jungle city that in the 19th Century turned from a small outpost to the most important port in the Amazon basin, earning cosmopolitan status during the so called “Rubber Boom.”

The luxury of that bygone era is still embodied in the architecture, from the Iron House, designed by Eiffel for the 1889 Paris exhibition, to the stately houses erected along the Ramirez Hurtado promenade, overlooking the Amazon River. Today, the city bustles with three-wheeled "moto-taxis" and remains a vital port. It is also a gateway for adventurers seeking knowledge about the indigenous culture, the exotic wildlife and medicinal plants ready to be discovered.
