Mountain Biking in Cusco’s Back Country of the Inca

Join us in the verdant valleys of Cusco for a world-class bike tour. The back roads and trails through the Sacred Valley of the Inca offer terrain options for all riding abilities, from beginner to moderate to advanced.

The routes run between the famous Inca archaeological sites, like Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chincheros, Moray and the Salineras salt pans of Maras. Of course, a privately guided tour of Machu Picchu is also included (the good kind… no numbers or tacky little flags on sticks, we promise).

Your English-speaking guide on the trip will show you the awesome descents and flowing, llama-worn singletracks. For every stretch of challenging technical sections, there is an alternative road or trail for the less experienced rider, as well.

Any time you get tired or feel like taking a break, you can hop in the van and ride.

So, this is a perfect bike tour package for all, particularly families with keen bicycle riding children as young as 10 years old.

Hiking the back trails of Cusco's Inca heartlandMy name is Katie Shorthouse and I am based here in Cusco, Peru.

I’ve been operating trips in Cusco for the last 11 years.

Some of the highlights of this seven day bike trip are, of course, Machu Picchu, which is the highlight of any trip to Peru, cycling the length of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and also riding into a camp site at the beautiful, remote, natural hot springs at Lares.

An incredible thing about the terrain in this part of the world, which I haven’t seen anywhere else — and I have biked in many other parts of the world — is that every section that we ride seems to offer an option.

So, if we’re going downhill there is always the dirt or paved road for the less experienced people to ride down, and some exciting single track for more experienced people. So we can truly and confidently say that this is a trip for riders at all levels of ability.

My favourite part of this trip is the Lares hot springs. It’s one of my favourite places to go in the whole world — these amazing natural hot springs that are genuinely hot, beautifully landscaped, in this crazy gorge by a rushing river. And the fact of actually being able to bike in and out of this beautiful place is just incredible. I can’t get enough of it.

We have a van with the trip at all times, so that obviously when we’re not biking and we’re getting from point A to point B, which we keep to a minimum, but obviously that’s in the van. And also, any time we’re riding and you’ve had enough and you want to hop into the van and just relax and ride, you can do that too. That’s with us at all times.

There are many different operators offering different versions of biking trips around Cusco, because this is one of the best places for biking in the world. And it is important when choosing who to go with to consider bike quality. And you won’t be surprised when I tell you that we have the best bikes in town. They have double suspension, which is super important if you want to get off-road at all. So yes, we have late-model, high brand, double suspension bikes.

You’ve got to go. It’s amazing.

Sharing is caring!
