Small price hike coming for Machu Picchu in May 2026

Machu Picchu Entrance Fees to Increase Starting May 1

Visitors to Machu Picchu will pay additional entrance fees starting May 1, Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism announced Friday.

Foreign tourists will pay an extra 11 soles ($3 USD), while Peruvian nationals will pay an additional 5 soles. The surcharge comes on top of current 2026 ticket prices of 152 soles (approximately $40 USD) for foreign adults and 64 soles for Peruvians, depending on the circuit chosen.

Tourism Minister Teresa Mera Gómez said the increase will fund maintenance work and improve accessibility at the country’s main tourist attraction. The revenue will go exclusively toward conservation of the protected natural area, she said.

“This increase is really due to a need to have resources for park maintenance,” Mera Gómez told reporters during a ceremony at the Sacsayhuamán archaeological park in Cusco. “We need to take action to improve conditions.”

She emphasized that current resources are insufficient to cover conservation needs and maintain access routes.

The Machu Picchu Management Unit approved the fee increase in 2022, but authorities are now implementing it to ensure the archaeological park’s sustainability and enhance the visitor experience, Mera Gómez said.

The 15th-century Incan citadel is Peru’s most visited tourist destination.
