{"id":355,"date":"2017-01-06T16:30:42","date_gmt":"2017-01-06T21:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ferturperu.info\/?p=355"},"modified":"2024-08-26T11:07:32","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T16:07:32","slug":"kuelap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2017\/kuelap\/355\/","title":{"rendered":"Kuelap, an adventurer&#8217;s alternative to Machu Picchu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the most exciting developments in&nbsp;Peru travel for 2017 is the anxiously anticipated cable car service to Peru&#8217;s own Great Wall: Kuelap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We still don&#8217;t have a precise date, but a year and a half after breaking ground on the project, Peru&#8217;s tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andina.com.pe\/agencia\/noticia-ferreyros-proximas-semanas-se-inaugura-las-telecabinas-kuelap-647750.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">says<\/a> the Telecabinas de Kuelap will be inaugurated in &#8220;the next few weeks.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a title=\"Chachapoyas Choctamal Kuelap 4 Days 3 Nights\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/chachapoyas-tours\/\">Kuelap is often called the Machu Picchu of the North<\/a>.&nbsp;The massive yellow stone fortress is not nearly as recognizable as the famed Lost City of the Inca. That&#8217;s a shame because it is an amazing feat of ancient architecture in its own right, and offers a window into the Chachapoyas culture that built it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/infographic-KUELAP-telecabinas-english-info.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12688 noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"379\" height=\"382\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/kuelap-cable-car-infographic.jpg\" alt=\"Download this PDF InfoGraphic in English about the Telecabinas Kuelap\" class=\"wp-image-12688\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/kuelap-cable-car-infographic.jpg 379w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/kuelap-cable-car-infographic-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/kuelap-cable-car-infographic-298x300.jpg 298w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 379px) 100vw, 379px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the&nbsp;cable cars start operating, the relative obscurity of <a title=\"Ku\u00e9lap\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/archaeological-sites\/amazonas\/kuelap\/\">Kuelap<\/a>&nbsp;is expected to&nbsp;fade, and fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Getting there had always requires traveling at least an hour and half over some rough terrain and bumpy roads&nbsp;\u2014 a journey that visitors usually deemed well&nbsp;worth the effort. With the cable cars, the spectacular ride will take only 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Visitor numbers are expected &nbsp;to double&nbsp;from around 40,000 in 2016 to 80,000 after the first year with the cable cars in operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even so, that&#8217;s drop in the bucket compared to the major historic sites in&nbsp;Cusco, which means you can&nbsp;explore one of the great archaeological sites of South America&nbsp;without a crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The complex is 600 meters long, with a protective outer wall up to 30 meters high. Within lie the remains of more than 400 round stone dwellings, many of them overgrown with bearded trees and bromeliads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chachapoyas are shrowded in myth. Often called the Warriors of the Clouds, they were considered ethnically distinct from other peoples of ancient Peru.
