{"id":13365,"date":"2017-12-14T21:53:46","date_gmt":"2017-12-15T02:53:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/?p=13365"},"modified":"2024-08-26T11:01:15","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T16:01:15","slug":"d-shaped-wari-temple-discovered-in-cuscos-vilcabamba-jungle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2017\/d-shaped-wari-temple-discovered-in-cuscos-vilcabamba-jungle\/13365\/","title":{"rendered":"D-shaped Wari Temple Discovered in Cusco&#8217;s Vilcabamba Jungle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Culture announced the discovery of an enormous pre-Inca temple in the shape of the letter &#8220;D&#8221; at archaeological ruins in Espiritu Pampa in Cusco&#8217;s jungle-shrouded Vilcabamba region, northwest of Machu Picchu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lead <a href=\"http:\/\/larepublica.pe\/sociedad\/1157926-cusco-arqueologos-descubren-templo-prehispanico-wari-video\" rel=\"nofollow\">archaeologist Javier Fonseca said<\/a> the architectural style is consistent with the Wari, whose culture expanded out from Ayacucho in the central highlands to conquer and flourish over a wide swath of Peru starting around 450 until 1100 CE, about 300 years before the rise of the Inca Empire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the center of the giant retaining walls, the archaeologists found a smaller structure, also formed in the shape of a &#8220;D&#8221; which could have served as part of an astronomical observatory or to perform magical and religious rituals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two Wari ceremic vessels were found, one featuring a spout in the form of a human face with pronounced features, enormous eyes and an ornate crown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The researchers also excavated a bevy of Inca artifacts, including Tupu brooches, silver pins and ceramic bottles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Culture announced the discovery of an enormous pre-Inca temple in the shape of the letter &#8220;D&#8221; at archaeological ruins in Espiritu Pampa in Cusco&#8217;s jungle-shrouded Vilcabamba region, northwest of Machu Picchu.
