{"id":12863,"date":"2017-04-28T16:51:28","date_gmt":"2017-04-28T21:51:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/?p=12863"},"modified":"2023-08-25T16:35:51","modified_gmt":"2023-08-25T21:35:51","slug":"machu-picchu-visitor-entry-in-two-shifts-will-begin-in-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2017\/machu-picchu-visitor-entry-in-two-shifts-will-begin-in-july\/12863\/","title":{"rendered":"Machu Picchu visitor entry in two shifts will begin in July"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>[Originally published April 28, 2017]<\/strong> The new ticketing system for visitors to Machu Picchu will be implemented on July 1, with tourists entering the Inca sanctuary\u00a0in two shifts, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The change was announced by Cusco\u2019s regional Culture Directorate on its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.machupicchu.gob.pe\" rel=\"nofollow\">Machu Picchu ticket sales page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first shift would be from 6 a.m. until 12 p.m. and the second from 12 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Reservation and sale of entrance tickets for these two different shifts will be starting\u00a0June 1, 2017,&#8221;\u009d in accordance with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2015\/unesco-chief-tours-machu-piccchu-and-lauds-the-beautiful-experience\/10523\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNESCO-endorsed Master Plan<\/a>\u00a0for the iconic Inca sanctuary. &#8220;In the month of May the necessary adjustments will be made in the system,&#8221;\u009d the communique said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This measure is adopted with the aim of ensuring a better flow of tourism, conservation and preservation of the Inca sanctury, in&nbsp;accordance with&nbsp;the Master Plan of the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2017\/machu-picchu-visitor-entry-in-two-shifts-will-begin-in-july\/12863\/visitor-totals-to-machu-picchu-1996-2016\/\">A record&nbsp;1.4 million visitors toured Machu Picchu in 2016<\/a>, according to official figures provided by Peru\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s 10.86&nbsp;percent increase over 2015, when&nbsp;1,282,515 people explored the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peruviantimes.com\/03\/machu-picchu-extreme-makeover-plans-explained\/27698\/\">El\u00ed\u00adas Carre\u00f1o Peralta, the Ministry of Culture\u2019s official in charge of implementing the Master Plan, told me in an interview for Peruvian Times<\/a> a few months ago that major changes are coming soon to ensure the Inca Citadel&#8217;s long-term sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Unlike petroleum and gold, which can be depleted, Machu Picchu should remain forever,&#8221;\u009d he said.
