In 2014, he led a team of Polish and Peruvian investigators who established the ritual site&nbsp;served as an important Inca astronomical observatory.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This challenging adventure trek would take five to six hours. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2011\/the-caretakers-of-machu-picchu\/2393\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleared in 2010<\/a>, <strong>Inkaraqay<\/strong>&nbsp;is located on the nearly vertical slope on the northeastern side of <strong>Huayna Picchu. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It encompasses a temple platform and five agricultural terraces with fine Inca stonework.&nbsp;In 2014, a&nbsp;team of Polish and Peruvian investigators, using 3D laser scanning technology, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andina.com.pe\/agencia\/noticia-confirman-existencia-observatorios-astronomicos-machu-picchu-514072.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow\">determined Inkaraqay was built for&nbsp;Inca astronomer priests<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hewn into the&nbsp;fine Inca masonry were&nbsp;small viewing holes, each about 5 centimeters in diameter. These holes were used for astronomical observation, a practice described in detail in 1572 by the chronicler Sarmiento de Gamboa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trek would wend round the iconic&nbsp;peak to the <strong>Temple of the Moon<\/strong>&nbsp;and culminate at Machu Picchu, entering the sanctuary&nbsp;at the <strong>Sacred Rock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2017\/new-machu-picchu-treks-adenalin-packed-and-contemplative\/12713\/inkaraqay-trek-price\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12715\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"220\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/inkaraqay-trek-price.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12715\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/inkaraqay-trek-price.png 450w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/inkaraqay-trek-price-300x147.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no precise date when this trek will be available, but&nbsp;the route is far enough along that Peru&#8217;s Congress last year included the entry fee approved for Machu Picchu in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trek would begin by crossing the Vilcanota River at Km. 117 over a new bridge that has yet to be built. Right now, there is a simple cable bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It would have the same $77 price tag&nbsp;as Machu Picchu \/ Huayna Picchu, or Machu Picchu \/ Machu Picchu Mountain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So too would the other &nbsp;new route, a gentler, more contemplative journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It offers a short, but steep, ascent up to and through the <strong>Andenes Orientales<\/strong> (Eastern Terraces).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The terraces are&nbsp;crisscrossed with&nbsp;a network of functioning Inca irrigation canals, ceremonial fountains, stone stairs and an Inca trail that leads up&nbsp;to Machu Picchu, delivering hikers to the <strong>Temple of the Condor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2017\/new-machu-picchu-treks-adenalin-packed-and-contemplative\/12713\/machu-picchu-eastern-terraces\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12719\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"210\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/machu-picchu-eastern-terraces-300x210.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12719\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/machu-picchu-eastern-terraces-300x210.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/machu-picchu-eastern-terraces.jpg 620w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This hike would take between 90 minutes and two hours to reach the citadel.
