{"id":10768,"date":"2015-08-24T19:09:59","date_gmt":"2015-08-25T00:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/?p=10768"},"modified":"2019-05-29T17:00:23","modified_gmt":"2019-05-29T22:00:23","slug":"improved-tourism-security-for-cusco-sacred-valley-and-machu-picchu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2015\/improved-tourism-security-for-cusco-sacred-valley-and-machu-picchu\/10768\/","title":{"rendered":"Improved tourism security for Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peru&#8217;s tourism ministry this week launched a new program with the tourism police to offer increased protection to travelers\u00a0in Cusco, Machu Picchu and all of the other major tourist attractions in between.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism police on foot and in new 4&#215;4 vehicles, each equipped with state-of-the-art GPS communications, will patrol and monitor the so-called &#8220;Preferred Tourism Corredor,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mincetur.gob.pe\/newweb\/Portals\/0\/prensa\/2015\/noticia_341_2015.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">said Tourism Minister Magali Silva<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A new 24-hour emergency alert system will\u00a0cover the tourist route that stretches\u00a0143 miles\u00a0from\u00a0Cusco, Pisaq, Chinchero, Urubamba and Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Travelers arriving to Cusco&#8217;s Velasco Astete Airport will see signs with a QR code to download an App for\u00a0\u00a0smart-phones, tablets and Androids\u00a0called &#8220;Tourism Police Peru.&#8221; It\u00a0can be used to immediately contact the tourism police in case of any emergency. Travelers can also call this toll free number: 0800 22221.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the first half of the year, the citadel of Machu Picchu has received about 570,000 tourists, domestic (24%) and foreign (76%), representing an increase of 13.7\u00a0percent\u00a0compared to the same period in\u00a02014,&#8221; said Silva.<\/p>\n<p>Increasingly,\u00a0families in Cusco&#8217;s countryside\u00a0make their living from tourism and have greatly improved their standard of living providing tourist services. &#8220;It is incumbent on us, as the\u00a0State,&#8221; Silva said, &#8220;to create conditions and an atmosphere of security so that the flow of tourists doesn&#8217;t stop.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Peru&#8217;s tourism ministry this week launched a new program with the tourism police to offer increased protection to travelers\u00a0in Cusco, Machu Picchu and all of the other major tourist attractions in between.
