{"id":1045,"date":"2009-09-29T07:49:47","date_gmt":"2009-09-29T12:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ferturperu.info\/?p=1045"},"modified":"2020-02-19T12:47:50","modified_gmt":"2020-02-19T17:47:50","slug":"mistura-2009-peruvian-cuisine-at-its-finest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2009\/mistura-2009-peruvian-cuisine-at-its-finest\/1045\/","title":{"rendered":"Mistura 2009 &#8211; Peruvian cuisine at its finest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The second edition of this gastronomy fair was beyond all expectations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you were in Lima from Thursday, Sept. 24 to Sunday, Sept. 27, and you were not informed about <strong>Mistura<\/strong>, the gastronomy fair that brought together the most popular representatives of Peruvian cooking, then you lost an incredible opportunity to taste the most spectacular dishes from Peru in a single place.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last Friday at around 4 p.m., I arrived to &#8220;<a id=\"aptureLink_z9wx5RAykG\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?om=0&amp;iwloc=addr&amp;f=q&amp;ll=-12.0613889%2C-77.0366667&amp;hl=en&amp;z=16&amp;ie=UTF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Parque de la Exposici\u00f3n<\/a>\u201d\u009d in downtown Lima, and after buying a couple of tickets for me and my wife for 20 soles each (around $7) we entered the fair, with lots of expectations \u201d\u00a6 and empty stomachs.<\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1048 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/IMG_1996-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Mistura Tickets\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/IMG_1996-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/IMG_1996-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/IMG_1996.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/em>Right after entering we were taken aback by the variety of stands offering all kind of professional cooking appliances, captivating cooking books and videos from the top Peruvian chefs, as well as special offers from the top gastronomy institutes in Lima.<\/p>\n<p>However, we had a clear objective: To eat.<\/p>\n<p>So we headed right to one of the many food courts. There, a long line of more than 50 people attracted our attention; they were all waiting for their turn to taste the most delicious anticuchos, pancitas and rachis from Lima, the ones from <strong>Panchita\u2019s<\/strong> food stall. A similar situation could be found at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2009\/where-to-find-delicious-anticuchos-in-lima\/628\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grimanesa\u2019s food stall<\/a>, a lady who has been selling anticuchos for more than 30 years (you can usually find her at the <a id=\"aptureLink_GXLjuXoL4t\" href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\/maps?om=0&amp;iwloc=addr&amp;f=q&amp;ll=-12.1179024%2C-77.0411227&amp;hl=en&amp;z=15&amp;ie=UTF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">corner of Enrique Palacios and 27 de Noviembre, Miraflores<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We decided to stay at the line, not before buying some seafood: &#8220;<em><a id=\"aptureLink_y37dtaLdjv\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YpN_Xpz_0NA\" rel=\"nofollow\">Choritos a la Chalaca<\/a><\/em>\u201d\u009d and &#8220;<em>Chicharron de Calamar<\/em>\u201d\u009d from &#8220;<a id=\"aptureLink_xP9UYCsDcU\" href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=UTxFTTpm3tE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Sonia<\/strong><\/a>\u201d\u009d and her enchanting boat-like food stall, and a yummy passion fruit-mango juice from &#8220;<strong>Las Delicias<\/strong>.\u201d\u009d Thirty\u00a0 minutes later, a mouth-watering dish from Panchita\u2019s and a happy pregnant lady in front of it (my wife) made a perfect Kodak moment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2009\/mistura-2009-peruvian-cuisine-at-its-finest\/1045\/delicious-anticuchos-at-mistura-food-festival\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12819\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12819 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/delicious-anticuchos-at-mistura-food-festival.jpg\" alt=\"Anticucho, a top draw of Peruvian cuisine \" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/delicious-anticuchos-at-mistura-food-festival.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/delicious-anticuchos-at-mistura-food-festival-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFully satisfied, we headed to &#8220;the big market\u201d\u009d, a place gathering merchants of natural products from all over Peru. There we enjoyed watching the wide varieties of <a id=\"aptureLink_olT9rFZfWT\" href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/IMG_2058.jpg\">peppers<\/a>, cheeses and potatoes from all the country.<\/p>\n<p>It started to get really cold, so we decided to make another line (luckily not so long as the one we made for the anticuchos) to buy a couple of hot &#8220;<em>emolientes<\/em>\u201d\u009d at &#8220;<a id=\"aptureLink_JVNMa0f2Hy\" href=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/IMG_2063.jpg\">Siete Mezclas<\/a>\u201d\u009d. I tried one flavored with &#8220;<a id=\"aptureLink_CgMviAOoGF\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/morrissey\/3233460573\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">aguaymanto<\/a>\u201d\u009d and my wife asked for the classic &#8220;7 roots.\u201d\u009d\u00a0 Needless to say they were both delicious.<\/p>\n<p>While enjoying our emolientes, we headed to the conference center where we enjoyed learning how to prepare an &#8220;Octopus Mosaic\u201d\u009d with the top Spanish chef <a id=\"aptureLink_qaXm1YkfVy\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/El%20Celler%20de%20Can%20Roca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Joan Roca<\/a>, and a complicated &#8220;Priprioca Scented Milk Pudding\u201d\u009d with the top brazilian chef <a id=\"aptureLink_FQEQ6nCC3F\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alex%20Atala\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Alex Atala<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/2009\/mistura-2009-peruvian-cuisine-at-its-finest\/1045\/mistura-culinary-bounty-of-peruvian-chilis\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12820\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12820 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/mistura-culinary-bounty-of-peruvian-chilis.jpg\" alt=\"Peruvian chili peppers, the foundation of Peruvian cuisine\" width=\"500\" height=\"376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/mistura-culinary-bounty-of-peruvian-chilis.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.fertur-travel.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/mistura-culinary-bounty-of-peruvian-chilis-300x226.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hungry again, we decided to go to the &#8220;Mistura Courtyard,\u201d\u009d were the elite restaurants from Lima where offering gourmet dishes four times cheaper than their regular prices. &#8220;<em>Ceviche Chiclayano de bonito con cangrejo<\/em>\u201d\u009d from &#8220;<strong>Fiesta<\/strong>,\u201d\u009d &#8220;<em>Rigatoni alla boscaiola<\/em>\u201d\u009d from &#8220;<strong>Dei Pratti<\/strong>,\u201d\u009d spectacular &#8220;<em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Churro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">churros<\/a><\/em>\u201d\u009d from &#8220;<strong>La 73<\/strong>\u201d\u009d for my wife and a marvelous glass of &#8220;<em>Maracuya Sour<\/em>\u201d\u009d from &#8220;<strong>Huaringas Bar<\/strong>\u201d\u009d for me, enjoyed while listening to fabulous musicians playing Peruvian music. It was one of the most delightful afternoons of this year for us both.<\/p>\n<p>Of course we missed several conferences and we couldn\u2019t try as many dishes as we wished, but we hope next year we can separate a complete free day just to enjoy everything this fair has to offer. It is definitely worth going.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mistura attracted around 200,000 visitors during the four days it lasted, way more visitors than organizers initially expected. By Saturday, all tickets were already sold.
