DAY 1 IQUITOS – EXPLORAMA LODGE
Reception at the airport, brief city orientation and transfer to the Explorama dock. Eighty-kilometer journey (approximately two hours) down the Amazon River to Yanamono Stream where Explorama Lodge is located. Afternoon hike along the "Lake Trail" through lowland rainforest which is seasonally flooded. During the high water season, this excursion is done by open boat. Night walk or open boat ride to enjoy the sounds of the rainforest and stars of the Southern sky. Lunch, Dinner. Overnight Explorama Lodge. (L/D)

DAY 2 EXPLORAMA LODGE
Morning walk along the "Bushmaster Trail," where scientific studies by the Missouri Botanical Gardens have found one of the world's highest biodiversity of trees per square hectare. Your guide will point out many plants used in medicine today and many that we may use in the future. Afternoon open boat trip along the Amazon in search of either of the two species of freshwater dolphin found in the river and a chance for an afternoon swim. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. DAY 3 EXPLORAMA LODGE – IQUITOS
Morning walk along a local river trail with stops along the way to visit the "ribereños" or river people, visit a river school, see the local sugar cane rum "factory" or visit our resident American medical doctor in her clinic sponsored by the Rotary Club. Transfer back to Iquitos for your departure flight to Lima. Breakfast, Lunch (if departure flight permits) Due to the ever changing nature of the rainforest, day-by-day activities are subject to change due to weather, trail or river conditions. (B/L)

 

 IQUITOS EXPLORE NAPO LODGE 4 DAYS/ 3NIGHTS (IQT02)

DAY 1 IQUITOS – EXPLORAMA LODGE
Reception at the airport, brief city orientation and transfer to the Explorama dock. DAY 2 EXPLORAMA LODGE – EXPLORNAPO
Breakfast, a boat ride down the Amazon and up the Napo River to the ExplorNapo Reserve and ExplorNapo Lodge. Afternoon visit to the ReNuPeRu Ethnobotanical Garden located next to ExplorNapo and tended by a local shaman. This garden is used to show visitors rainforest plants used in modern medicine as well as examples of native plant remedies which science may utilize in the future. Evening excursion by open boat along the Sucusari Stream in search of caiman and to enjoy the night sounds and stars of the Southern sky. Overnight ExplorNapo Lodge. (B/L/D)

DAY 3 EXPLORNAPO
Morning hike to the Canopy Walkway, a suspended bridge spanning 500 meters, connected by tree platforms and reaching a height of over 35 meters above the ground. Here you observe a "bird's eye view" of part of the rainforest rarely seen by man but accessible without any type of climbing skill or equipment. Afternoon boating excursion along one of the many Napo tributaries spotting along the way for birds and sloth. A stop is included for a try at river fishing with cane poles or a chance to swim. Overnight ExplorNapo Lodge. (B/L/D)

DAY 4 EXPLORNAPO – IQUITOS
Morning excursion to a black water oxbow lake formed when water from the Napo River became separated from the main flow of the river. These lakes are often covered with giant Victoria Regia water lilies and sometimes offer a glimpse of the elusive Hoatzin bird. Afternoon boat trip back to Iquitos passing the town of Francisco de Orellana, where a statue is erected to the intrepid explorer who became the first European to see the Amazon River in 1542. Transfer to the airport for departure. Breakfast, Lunch (if departure flight permits). Day-by-day activities are subject to change due to weather, trail or river conditions. (B/L)

DAY 5 EXPLOR NAPO LODGE

DAY 6  EXPLOR NAPO LODGE – CEIBA TOPS
Morning boating excursion along one of the Napo tributaries spotting for sloth, birding and fishing for piranha. Also a chance to visit some of the local river people called "ribereños" whose houses are seen along the river. Afternoon boat trip back to Ceiba Tops where private rooms with electricity and air conditioning begin your return to "civilization". On the return trip you will pass the town of Francisco de Orellana, where a statue is erected to the intrepid explorer who in 1542 at the mouth of the Napo River became the first European to see the Amazon River. DAY 7  CEIBA TOPS
Morning visit to the neighboring Yagua Indian Community, an explanation of their native culture, blow gun demonstration and a chance to purchase or trade for their crafts. Afternoon hike in the beautiful primary rainforest reserve surrounding Ceiba Tops where many huge trees are festooned in epiphytes. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Overnight Ceiba Tops. (B/L/D)

DAY 8  CEIBA TOPS - IQUITOS
Your choice of open boat ride or hike for the morning or a chance to relax in a hammock and enjoy the sounds of the surrounding rainforest. Transfer to Iquitos by boat and bus to the airport for your departure to Lima or Miami. Breakfast, Lunch if departure flight permits.

 MUYUNA 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS (IQT04)

DAY 1 IQUITOS - MUYUNA LODGE
Pickup at Iquitos airport and, after a brief orientation tour of the city, transfer to harbor, where a speed boat will be waiting for you, ready to travel three hours upriver on the Amazon. Muyuna staff will welcome you with a typical drink. After settling in to your bungalow and having lunch, you will start your jungle adventure. A check list of the animals that have been previously seen will be provided. A short walk shows you the immense variety of flora in the region. In this trek, you can taste the water that the "urticaria tormentosa" has inside its vine, which is said to cure cancer. You will also be amazed looking at the ceiba tree, although you cannot see the top because of its towering height. (L/D)

DAY 2 MUYUNA LODGE
This day you will visit all the surrounding lakes and explore the jungle, looking for monkeys and sloths. Your guide will explain their habitat and behavior. Primates that you can expect to see in this trek are the squirrel monkeys, which always move in large groups, and the pygmy marmoset, the smallest monkey in the world. With the midday sun, your best option to refresh yourself is to take a dip in the lake. In the afternoon, while you enjoy an amazing sunset, fish for piranha in lake Corientillo. (B/L/D)

DAY3 MUYUNA LODGE
In the morning you will make a bird watching excursion. This is the best hour to look for them because they begin their day feeding themselves in the trees. It will be easy to spot parrots, macaws, toucans, egrets, hawks, etc. The check list will help you to identify the species you see. Later, you will be taken by boats to the other side of the Amazon River, where pink dolphins ply the waters, playing around your boat. If your trip is made between July and November, you will also enjoy white sandy beaches that emerge when the river runs low. On the way back to the lodge, you will see the biggest aquatic plant in the world, the Victoria Regia. Share your afternoon with friendly people of the nearby San Juan of Yanayacu village. It is posible to buy traditional handcrafts fashioned from seeds. (B/L/D)

DAY 4 MUYUNA LODGE-IQUITOS
Use canoes or go walking to the "Pungal", depending on the water level. This is an area that has several strangle figs, which is the favorite spot for pre-historic looking Hoatzin birds. After lunch, your jungle adventure experience will come to an end. You will travel the three hours back to Iquitos and be taken to the airport. (B/L)

SINCHICUY LODGE 3 DAYS/2 NIGHTS (IQT 06)

DAY 1 IQUITOS – SINCHICUY LODGE
Pickup at Iquitos airport. Orientation tour of the 19th century jungle city, then on to harbor to board a native Pamacari boat to make the 30-kilometer trip up the Sinchicuy River to the lodge, which is set in a tropical garden surrounded by lush jungle vegetation. After lunch, visit the orchid farm and insect and butterfly display on the grounds of the lodge. You then visit the Yagua Indian tribe. (L/D)

DAY 2 SINCHICUY LODGE
Sunrise excursion to observe the amazing variety of birds in the Sinchicuy area. After breakfast at the lodge begin your exploration of the jungle. You take the native trails through the jungle learning about the large variety of flora and fauna. (B/L/D)

DAY 3 IQUITOS - LIMA
Following breakfast at the lodge, departure back to Iquitos to board flight back to Lima. (B)
