Gocta Falls ~ The Debate and a Video

There’s been much frenzied debate about what place Gocta holds on the list of the world’s highest waterfalls. Is it the third highest, the fifth or the fourteenth? Do you measure both drops together, or only the highest of the two stages? Is height really the most important factor in deciding whether a waterfall is worth visiting?

There’s little doubt the falls are a spectacular new attraction, and another reason to turn north from Cusco and visit Chachapoyas and the Fortress of Kuelap on your vacation to Peru. What’s shocking is how recently Gocta was brought to national and international attention, just four years ago.
A curse involving a blond goddess and a serpent kept locals from revealing the natural wonder on their doorstep. This video gives you a glimpse of what all the fuss is about.
